Beard Iris

The Iris is a flowering plant with showy flowers. Its receives its name from the Greek word for rainbow, because of all wide variety of colors the flower comes in. This is a popular flower in the United States and an unspecified subspecies is the state flower of Tennessee. The yellow iris is the symbol of Brussels, since historically, Saint Gaugericus Island is covered with them. Today, this flower has become a feature on the flag of the Brussels-Capital Region. The Yellow Iris is also used in water purification. The roots improve the water quality by consuming nutrient pollutants, such as agricultural runoff. The following photos are photographs that I took in my own backyard. (The last photo is of a daisy, they are my favorite flower and I could not resits taking a photo of them!)
